Cymbal Sampes for 2box

Hi all!

I recently upgraded my home studio setup with some new equipment and was doing some tests…but I ended up with sampling some nice cymbals. (I have the whole range in the Paste PST7 series – about 9 cymbals – all have not been launched yet!)

I first made a recording of a 14″ Thin Crash in the PST7 Series with 3 zones (bow, edge and bell), 74-80 layers each, about 235 layers in total creating a 126MB file. Then I continued with a 10″ splash, 18″ China and a 20″ Ride. (more will follow) I was using all my old knowledge of creating and editing sounds for 2box and the result can be found here if anybody is interested.

64 GB CardMod for 2box modules

We have been able to source a 64GB SD Card which both works fantastic with all DrumIt modules – something which have been confirmed by customers. The amount of kits which you can store on the card feels unlimited! The secret behind the success, is first to find a working SD Card (could be tricky) and second is to prepare it with the special knowledge on how to partition and formatting the card for use with 64GB. The SD card can be bought as standalone or in a card mod package with a 21 cm SD extension cable. All cards have gone through extensive testing before shipping. 2box samples from Zourman!

The release 2 (from March 2020) the Zourman Drums snare samples with a 1922s Ludwig Black Beauty and Swedish 101Drums snares are still selling well for customers looking for something extra for their snare sound! In these releases we included all our 2box knowledge (From the work with the sounds found in the DrumIt Five MKII build) in terms of mixing, cutting, levels, optimized silence and created 4 different acoustic treatments of the snare sounds – from dry, normal, effect to wet.

Some 2box knowledge with Lustark Drumit Manager and Dsound Manager

I have compiled together a couple of videos with tutorials about the basics how to import/export 2box settings and sound banks from an old Drumit Five build to a new and fresh downloaded build (for Three or MKII) from 2box.se.

Another tool which is included in the DrumIt Manager is the Dsound Manager – a great tool for manipulating 2box sounds and settings.

One of the functions found in Dsound Manager is the ability to set the volume per zone on existing dsnd files! A fantastic function! See this video about how this feature works!

New versions of all Zourman Drums snare samples for 2box DrumIt Five, Three and Five MKII

Hi!

I just wanted to hi-jack(!) a post and say that I recently updated all my snares for 2box offered on www.zourman.com!

In the release (V2), I took all my 2box knowledge in terms of mixing, cutting, levels, sound shaping and revisited all my three released snare sounds – 101Drums Blue Diamond, White Diamond and 1920s Ludwig Black Beauty samples and repacked them into 4 different acoustic treatments – from dry, normal, ambience to wet. All sounds have 3 zones consisting of head, rimshot and xsticks sounds. (= several hundred hours of work for a bargain!)

If want to order and download any of the snare sounds – You get both the V1 and V2 versions! Previous buyers of the samples can logon to their account page at Zourman.com and download V2 for free.

Our latest sample collection brings together Zourman Drum’s 2box knowledge, a fantastic sounding snare from 101Drums and the work of Johan Koleberg’s drum recordings in one great pack of snare samples. The custom samples are now released as a Zourman drum sampling product and customers can buy it as a download at the www.zourman.com site.

101Drums is a Swedish fast-growing company that specializes in making drum shells and snare drums out of a specially treated wood-fibre material. The shells are designed to be impervious to extreme weather changes and moisture. The resulting sound is intended to be deep and round – optimal for pop & rock drummers!

The 101Drums samples consist of 168MB samples, 6 different snare sounds generated from over 800 drum hits. With the 2box open sound source approach, we were able to create another sample package to our library based on a great snare and release it in 2box file format.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

It has been a fantastic year for Zourman Drums!

    • A great review of the 3 zone ride conversion module for DrumIt Five in digitalDrummer – March month edition. Even ATV’s 18″ Ride seems to work fantastic!
    • Beta tester of 2box 1.32 firmware for DrumIt Five
    • Launched a conversion module for ddrum 4se and Roland VH-11 (March 2018)
    • Created & authorized a 3 zone snare sample for 2Box DrumIt Three factory library, a special version of the 1920s Black Beauty snare. Found as ZD BB Dow Dry RSC.dsdn in the “Three”.

Did you know that – 9 factory kits found in DrumIt Three are using Zourman Drums Black Beauty Snare?

I just realized that our 3 zone snare of the legendary 1920s Ludwig Black Beauty delivered by Zourman Drums/Drumforce found in the 2box DrumIt Three factory library is used by a lot of predefined factory kits in the “Three” . (Extremely fun for us at Zourman Drums!)

The DrumIt Three kits using the Zourman Drums Black Beauty are:

  • 6, DrumIt Live Kit
  • 13, The 2 Snare Kit
  • 19, Stockholm Jazz
  • 28, Loop Bossa
  • 29, 103 BPM Rim Loops
  • 35, Studio Muller
  • 39, Jazzland
  • 78, Under Pressure
  • 87, Birdland

This 14×6.5″ Super-Ludwig Deluxe/Inspiration model was produced somewhere between 1924-1930. A couple of signs indicates that this legendary snare was a preproduction unit to a special artist and that it is therefore produced before 1924 (We believe around 1922). The series was called Black Beauty because of the black shell finnish (often with engravings).

Zourman Drums/DrumForce recently launched the complete pack with the rest of the sampled sounds of the Black Beauty snare (about 6 sound packs more) especially for 2box Drumit Three and support for 3 zones. (e.g. Head, Rim & Crosstix in the same dsdn) This pack also works for DrumIt Five, but here you need to manually select between the Rim or Crosstix sound.

Legendary 1920s Ludwig Black Beauty sample can be found in 2box DrumIt Three factory library

Hi all!
I just wanted to highlite that a 3 zone flavour (down mic based) of Zourman Drums/Drumforce legendary 1920s Ludwig Black Beauty Snare sample can be found in the factory library of 2box DrumIt Three. (Big thanks to 2box for making this possible!) It is named ZD BB Dow Dry RSC can be found in /snare/3zones on all delivered “Three’s”.

This 14×6.5″ Super-Ludwig Deluxe/Inspiration model is produced somewhere between 1924-1930. A couple of signs indicates that this legendary snare was a preproduction unit to a special artist and that it is therefore produced before 1924 (We believe around 1922). The series was called Black Beauty because of the black shell finnish (often with engravings).

Jouni at Drumforce bought the 14×6.5″ snare from the legendary drumshop Pro DrumShop at Vine Street in Hollywood in 2009 for a fortune. According to Pro DrumShop, the snare had been left by the owner to be sold on consignment. The owner who left it was the legendary Drum Doctor, Ross Garfield. Ross is a well-known drum technician and supplier of drum equipment for some of the best-known bands in the world. (He supplied the drums to Metallicas Black Album)

We can only speculate where this rare snare was been used when Ross owned it and during the time since 1920s. What we do know is that this snare showed up in Sweden and at Big Jambo Studios/Drumforce!

Zourman Drums/DrumForce recently launched the complete pack with the rest of about 6 sound packs of the snare especially for 2box Drumit Three and to support 3 zones. (e.g. Head, Rim & Crosstix in the same dsdn) This pack also works for DrumIt Five, but here you need to manually select between Rim or Crosstix sound.

Please note, to be able to utilize 3 zones on DrumIt Three you need to have a piezo, switch and switch based e-pad like the Yamahas. We have implemented it ourselves by using a piezo/piezo based snare + a Roland BT-1, but it will consume one extra channel.
